About Kongou Jewellery Design
I grew up in a household of innovation and inventiveness. With my father inventing several medical operating theatre machines that have saved countless lives and pioneering the research into Omega 3 fish oil. For some strange reason I opted for the Metalwork path, after a visit to Lancelot Silverware in Sheffield where I experienced Bill Richardson (retired) Chasing patterns in steel.

Luckily escaping the standard influx to the Sheffield steel foundries, from my comprehensive school. I started work in an independent manufacturing and retail jewellers called “Elite”, Were I served three years as a trainee, working as a jobbing jeweller.

I decided to go into business for myself. Repairing jewellery for local retail jewellers and offering a bespoke jewellery making service. A short stint working for Mr. Jack Cheetham (Mappin & Webb) a pre-war silversmith, was an amazing time full of the old traditional methods and skills. Also helping out at another of my families businesses, electro plating which gave me an interest in surface finishers on precious metals.

After some years of reasonable success I was offered a residency opportunity with Sheffield Museums and galleries. Demonstrating traditional skills making and selling my work at The Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet (a two hundred and forty year old water wheel powered industrial hamlet), where Crucible steel was made by Benjamin Huntsman.

In 1993 I felt that I would like to broaden my horizons and started a degree course in design at Sheffield Hallam University and graduated in 1997. At the University I was lucky enough to be tutored by Christoph Zellweger the internationally renowned designer.

Since leavind Sheffield Hallam University with a BA (Hons) degree I have been working as a bespoke designer/Maker and bringing up a family. Supplying shops and private clients with my designs.
